21 Unit Types. Infinite Tactics.

From infantry squads holding chokepoints to jets delivering devastating airstrikes, every unit has a role. Draft your army from 21 distinct unit types spanning ground, air, naval, and special forces. Each unit has unique stats for health, attack, defense, accuracy, dodge, movement, vision, and range — creating deep tactical decision-making in every engagement.

Combat factors in terrain defense bonuses, entrenchment, flanking multipliers, counter-attacks, and unit-vs-unit effectiveness tables. Position matters. Terrain matters. The commander who reads the battlefield wins.

Ground Forces
Infantry, Tanks, Artillery, Recon, Anti-Air, Engineers, Snipers, Mortars, Scouts, and APCs. From frontline assault to rear-line support, each fills a distinct tactical niche.
Air Power
Helicopters for close support, Jets for air superiority, Bombers for strategic strikes, and Paratroopers for behind-enemy-lines insertions. Control the skies to control the war.
Naval Forces
Destroyers control the seas, Submarines strike from below, Transports move armies across oceans, and AA Frigates provide fleet air defense. Dominate the waterways on archipelago maps.
Ultimate Abilities
Every combat unit has a unique ultimate ability on a cooldown. From nuclear strikes to paradrop insertions to PsyOps phantom signals, ultimates are battle-changing tools for decisive commanders.
Unit Promotions
Units earn ranks through combat: Veteran, Specialist, and Commander. Each promotion offers specialization choices that shape your army. Commanders radiate powerful auras to nearby allies — but are permanently lost on death.
Naval Transport
Load ground forces onto Transport ships for amphibious operations. Coastal cities produce naval units directly. Unload all cargo at once or pick individual units to deploy on nearby land tiles.
10 Factions. 10 Doctrines.

Each faction plays differently. Doctrines define combat bonuses, penalties, budget sizes, and strategic tendencies. The AI leverages faction-specific strategies on Medium and Hard — a Russian AI mass-produces cheap units, an Iranian AI flanks relentlessly, and a US AI dominates with air power. Choose a faction that matches your playstyle — or master them all to unlock faction mastery commendations.

Procedural Battlefields. Strategic Terrain.

Seven map generators create unique battlefields every game: Continents, Archipelago, Pangaea, and themed presets like Desert Storm, Pacific Islands, Frozen Steppe, and European Plains. Maps scale from small skirmishes to epic 5,000-tile theaters of war.

Terrain shapes every battle. Forests provide cover, mountains block line of sight, cities generate income, and oceans require naval transport. Entrench in defensive positions, exploit flanking corridors, and deny your opponent key terrain.

🌍
7 Map Generators
Procedural generation with terrain-first algorithms. Every map is unique, with natural continent shapes, island chains, mountain ranges, and forest clusters.
👁
Fog of War
Hidden information warfare. Enemy positions are invisible until your units spot them. Mountains block line of sight. The AI plays under the same fog of war rules on Medium and Hard — no more omniscient enemies.
📑
Enemy Intelligence
After first visual contact, enemy faction cards appear with live intel — visible unit counts, known cities, and an Intelligence modal with military, strategic, and faction analysis tabs. In multiplayer, view opponent dossiers with win rates and combat records.
Hand-Painted Terrain Decorations.

Every terrain type comes alive with detailed visual decorations. Procedurally generated forests feature lush trees with individual trunks, roots, and multi-layered canopies. Mountains display craggy spires with stratified ledges, vertical cracks, and moss patches. Cities burst with varied buildings, rooftop details, street-level trees, and lamp posts. Each hex maintains consistent visual identity through seeded variation.

🌳
Forests with Depth
3-4 hand-painted trees per forest hex, with visible trunks, exposed roots, and multi-layered canopies. Sorted for proper depth overlap.
🐇
Rocky Peaks
Jagged mountain spires with ledge stratification, vertical cracks, secondary peaks, and clinging vegetation. Each variant is unique and memorable.
🏤
Urban Centers
7-10 buildings per city hex with varied architecture, window styles, rooftop equipment (AC units, antennas, satellites), trees, and street lamps.
🚶
6-Direction Unit Sprites
Every unit has 6 unique directional sprites for each hex direction. Units display proper rotation, perspective, and lighting as they move — NE/NW units lean back, SE/SW lean forward, with 504 total sprite variants across all unit types and team colors.
24 Ranks. 97 Medals. Prestige Stars.

Progress through 24 USMC-themed military ranks from Private to General. Earn XP through combat actions — kills, captures, damage, and victories. Higher ranks require elite prestige conditions: win streaks, hard mode victories, faction mastery, and perfect games.

Unlock 97 commendation medals across combat, achievement, faction mastery, and endurance categories. Your Service Record tracks every stat, every game, every accomplishment. Public dossiers let other commanders inspect your record.

AI That Fights Like a Commander.

The single-player AI uses faction-specific strategies with unique tactical priorities, aggression levels, retreat thresholds, and production weights. Russia swarms with numbers. The UK digs in and picks you apart. North Korea builds forward fortresses. The AI reads the terrain, prioritizes targets, and adapts its approach based on doctrine.

Three difficulty levels scale from forgiving to ruthless. On Hard mode, the AI exploits every advantage and punishes every mistake — earning you the most prestigious commendations when you prevail.

Adaptive Audio. Immersive Warfare.

A full audio engine delivers unit sound effects and an immersive military soundtrack. Nine military-themed background music tracks play in shuffled rotation during gameplay, with a Skip Track button to change songs on the fly. Music plays automatically during draft, placement, and battle phases, and pauses in menus and at victory/defeat screens. Faction-specific stingers punctuate key moments like reveals and victories. Independent volume sliders for Master, Music, and SFX let you dial in the perfect mix.

Desktop App. Controller Ready.

HexArmy runs as a native desktop application via Tauri, delivering the full browser experience in a lightweight standalone window. Connect a gamepad and command your forces from the couch — full controller support maps every action to intuitive button layouts: sticks for panning and cursor control, triggers for analog zoom, face buttons for unit selection and turn management. Steamworks integration provides authentication, overlay access, achievements, stats tracking, friends list, and Steam Cloud saves — your progress syncs across machines automatically. With graceful fallback for non-Steam players.
